I'm thinking of doing the AT as a thru-hiker. I'll be coming from the UK. I've been agonising over Lehigh Gap. I'm sure there are some other very scary parts too but so far that climb out of Lehigh Gap is the most troubling I've seen! I kind of have a love/hate relationships with heights. I love heights...as long as I'm far enough away from the edge. Walking up a steep slope I can just about handle. However, seeing pictures of this climb has made me feel sick with fear. So the fact there is an option to bypass it is music to my ears!! I'm praying by that point I feel strong enough and my fear of heights has subsided enough to do it. But if not, then I'll be taking the winter trail! And I won't feel guilty about it at all ;) <br />Dogs looked like they enjoyed some of it at least.
